Where Are you When you Eat?

Did you ever notice that most of the time, we tend to eat mindlessly? Mindful eating is a method that allows us to change our relationship with food. It helps us recognize when we are eating out of stress or emotions.
Mindful Eating is one of the most basic method in the Mindfulness approach and is about bringing awareness to food choices and to the experience of eating. It helps us become more aware of our thoughts, feelings and physical sensations related to eating, reconnecting ourselves with our inner wisdom about hunger and satiety. It offers the possibility of freeing yourself from reactive patterns around food and eating. It also empowers you to make healthier choices, unlike dieting, which can lead to feelings of deprivation.

When we are stressed and we see food that we like (usually not the best ones for us!), consciously or unconsciously we think that the food will help us feel better. We create a habit, and the anticipation is like an addiction.

4 Easy Steps to Develop Mindful Eating Habits :
1.  Next time you notice you’re over eating, stop and note how you are feeling. Are you feeling sick? Do you have stomach ache? Do you feel guilty? Take some time to review your day, your week. You may be eating out of stress. Each time you over eat, try to associate what made you reach for the fridge.

2.  To eat mindfully, simply be aware of what, when and how you are eating and use your 5 senses to feel the sensations of each bite. Try the raisin Meditation technique!

3.  Make sure you don’t have any stimuli or distractions around you (TV, computer, phone, book). Just eat!

4.  Start with the goal of 1 mindful meal per day and eventually you will develop a new pattern to eat more and more mindfully.
