What is Mindfulness?

 

Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, to know where we are physically and emotionally, to control what we do and to easily manage what is happening around us.

How does Mindfulness work?


It only takes a few minutes to realize that our thoughts are mostly associated with our past experiences or with worries about the future, leaving aside the most important: the present moment. In 2005, the National Science Foundation published an article stating that on average, a human being has between 12 000 and 15 000 thoughts every day. Of these thoughts, 90% are repetitive and 80% are negative. That is considerable! It’s in our interests to learn how to manage what is going on in our head!
Cultivating mindfulness allows to be fully in the present moment, which allow the space needed in your head to deactivate the auto pilot mode. By being more aware of the reaction modes and options available, we can adequately choose between many options and avenues to manage what is in front of us.    
Like a muscle, we can improve concentration and creativity by practicing simple and efficient exercises. Remember that in order to get the most out of your practice, you have to fully invest yourself in the process. No runner ran their first marathon without previous training!
